8 Constructing Identity Online Discussion

How many online identities do you have?
I just have two online identity.Sometimes I use my fullname 'Wong Man Ting' on the internet. Also, I use the name of Cat like MSN, facebook because Cat is my nickname. However, there are lots of people who called Cat and Wong Man Ting on the internet, I need to add some number on my name behind to make a clearly identity. For example, I use mantingwong517 on this blog account.

In what way are they different from one another?
Some people may use the fake identities to instead the real identities,because they may not want to show their real identities. They can use different identities on online communication programme like MSN, facebook.

What are some benefits of expressing one’s identity online?
Many people may use the fake identities have many benifits. I can put a pretty photo and name to identity myself. Then, I may be more popular and more people want to chatting with me.

What are some risks?
We can't trust everyboby on the internet, especially new online friends. They may use the fake identities to interact with us.

-Difficulties in classifying digital art because it is broad range of works and often interdisciplinary.
-Digital art need to use computer to make it. we must use the computer to watch the digital art.Because May be some video can't print out to see it.
-Digital art need the technical skills like useing the computer software.
-Digital art are difficult to set up the exhibition
-many people think that the digital art are not reliable and fake.

a) Is there any problem with simply using the products that Microsoft and Apple companies create for us?

• Microsoft and Apple softwares do not allow users to create content through incremental individual effort or through collabration. For example, we can not change system like Microsoft office.
  
• Obviously, Microsoft and Apple softwares do not freely available to the general publics. If we put Microsoft and Apple softwares on the internet, we may against the law of copyright.

• Microsoft and Apple softwares are expensive.
  

b)Why do some people choose to use open-source software such as Linux?

• Open source software like Linux, Firefox are more freely available to the general public with relaxed or non-existent intellectual property restrictions. So, we can use the software like distribute copies and modified versions of works on the internet by law.



• Open source software allow users to create content through incremental individual effort or through collabration. It means that we can free to change and use the software just we like.

c)Who owns the right to modify your digital tools? Does it matter at all? Why or why not?

• I always use the Microsoft Office like Microsoft Words. I think Microsoft Words is an effective software for me to type my homeworks like essays and papers. When I use the Microsoft Office, I do not have problems to use it because I am not a expert and I use the software simply.Also, I do not need to a most update software or modify my digital tools likes the Microsoft Office system.

• Bill Gates is a chairman of Microsoft company. Microsoft involve Windows operating system and software. Window is a proprietary operating system. For example, when we use the Microsoft word, we can not change the inner system.
